Retro Review : Ratchet and Clank

It's close to the release of the new Ratchet and Clank game 'A Crank In Time' and I thought why not review the game that started it all and one of my favourite non-JRPG's on the PS2 the original Ratchet and Clank.

For those people who missed out this game GET IT! It's awesome fun but I'll get to that in a bit, first lets follow the motions and get though the review like normal. The story is Clank is built on a distant planet and searches for the space hero Captain Quark, while searching he crashes on planet Veldin and meet his new partner Ratchet who is the last Lombax in the universe. After teaming up they search for Quark to stop the threat of the Blarg race and their chairman Drek. I would continue but there may be people who have never played Ratchet and Clank and to those people I hope you can get a copy of this game. Gameplay is a hybrid of action shooters and platforming which works as well as a toaster at cooking bread into toast. The controls work well but it's only real flaws, which they fix in the sequels is the lack of strafing and standing still after throwing your wrench, but it's simple to pick up and play. The fun part of this game is the fact that the creators even said themselves is that the main idea of the game is to blow s*** up and you have some awesome weapons to do so. There's also another weapon that's fun to us and that's the morph gun of the game which allows you to turn enemies into chickens, and when you kill a chicken the do that bugurk sound chickens make.... it's childish fun! Dialogue in this game is gold with family friendly jokes and very good voice acting. The game is a good starter game for anyone coming into gaming and it's sequels keep the fun rolling on and make you just drool in anticipation over then next games release.

Ratchet and Clank is a fun game that everyone can enjoy and should be played by everyone and each sequel just gets better and better! A must have in any game collection but if you have a 60GB PS3 it's not gonna play on it properly so make sure you still have a PS2 for PS2 games.
