Let's Talk Anime : Soul Eater

This hasn't been released in Australia just yet but in April you will get a chance to see it and I have seen the series in Japanese and the first 13 episodes in English and I'm collecting the mangas. Soul Eater is a different concept to the usual animes made and it's this week's Let's Talk Anime topic.

Ok here is a basic bit of information on the show/manga to give you an idea on what your in for. Maka Albarn and her weapon partner Soul Eater are students at the Death Weapon Meister Academy—DWMA (,Shibusen) or simply the Academy for short—located in the fictional Death City, in Nevada, United States. The school has many other students including Black Star with his weapon partner Tsubaki, and Death The Kid with his twin weapon partners Liz and Patty. The school is run by Shinigami/Grim Reaper,Death himself, as a training facility for weapons and the human wielders of those weapons, the meisters. Maka's goal, along with the other meisters, is to have their weapons defeat and absorb the souls of 99 evil humans and one witch, which will dramatically increase the power of the given weapon and turn them into Death Scythes, weapons capable of being used by Shinigami/Grim Reaper/Death . In the universe of Soul Eater, witches are powerful beings and the natural enemies of DWMA, as almost all of them have a destructive nature and desire chaos.

That's just the basics but the story is full of comedy and action and isn't meant for kids. It's definitely a 16+ age manga/anime and it's characters are all great. Trust me if you watch this you will enjoy it, with it's sexual references both verbal and visual, it's humour and action packed fight scenes you'll want to watch it again and again. The series starts with introduction episodes to the main characters and a basic idea of what the show is about and then around episode 8 I think when Crona and Ragnarok appear is when the actual plot and story build up. The second season is better then the first with more story driven episodes and the characters evolve in to more adult characters and when the final battle starts in the last 3 or 4 episodes of the series, you really see the difference from when they started and the final battle is awesome! One character I should mention is Excalibur. He's a weird weapon who will get a laugh out of you. He's a weird character who shows up a couple of times in the series and I like him.

Soul Eater is a good anime because it isn't the same as other series. While most series in anime/manga are similar to another series, Soul Eater is an original idea that isn't derived from anything I've ever heard of before and I think that this series could become very popular with the right publicity and being aired on a channel people will actually watch. I recommend every anime fan buy this series because it's just so good and if you miss out on it, your going to regret it.
